[00:00:00] Okay welcome to the main cPanel dashboard. And this is just a very quick overview of cPanel and what you could expect to find when you first log into a cPanel hosting account.
[00:00:14] So just to have a quick look at the top here you may have a logo or something similar to that for the hosting company that you’re with. You may have a search box, your account name, notifications icon, and a logout button.
[00:00:39] Now quite obviously we then move over to the side bar here, and you’ll see there’s a Home button which, when you click it brings you back here. So if you were in any of these other sections you simply click the little icon there for home and it will bring you back to this screen.
[00:00:58] Now down the center here we have the various sections of your control panel. So we’ll just have a quick look down those and you’ll see that we have a file section and it has important items in there like file manager, FTP accounts to FTP connections and ones that are really important for you to protect your website investment is the back up which we will cover in a different video.
[00:01:31] So moving down the page you’ll see that we have databases and this is where you need to create a database manually. You can do that in there.
[00:01:42] Now this next one you may not have in your hosting account it’s something that we provide for our clients and it helps them to do some basic search engine optimization themselves.
[00:01:53] So the next one down is our domain’s box and this is where we manage things like add on domains and subdomains as well as aliases, so if you own the dot com dot au domain, and that’s what your main hosting account is set up as you can actually set up the dot com, if you own it, as an alias and that way when somebody visits that Website, it will automatically be transferred to the dot com dot au.
[00:02:20] The next section we’ve got here is the e-mail section and this is an important section for anybody using the P.O.P 3 or IMAP email protocols for their business email addresses. So with our hosting accounts everybody has access to e-mail addresses which means that you can have your own you know [email protected] email address, or whatever at whatever your domain is, and whatever you choose to have for your e-mail you can also set up some forwarders, so if you’re going away and you want to forward some e-mail from one account to another you can do that, auto responders so that you can let everybody know that you are on holidays and a few other options there.
[00:03:10] So moving down you’ll see that we have metrics. And this is where you can actually get some raw stats from the server in regards to your hosting account and the people visiting your website. We really recommend using A.W. stats it’s a nice easy to understand report.
[00:03:32] So the next one down is things like your SSL certificates and the security of your website. So if you notice that you’re getting a lot of you know attacks or cyber intrusions or you know particular IP addresses attacking your web site you can come in here and use the IP blocker to block it. You can actually purchase or install SSL certificates through this section as well.
[00:04:02] So in the next section down this is our software section. Now depending on who your hosting account is, some of these may be here or none of them. So things like CloudFlare that’s an extra that we include with our server. And you’ll also see the softaculous apps installer which is also an extra that we include and obviously the seo and WordPress Themes are also some different options that may not be in yours.
[00:04:36] So moving right along we’ve got the advanced section. Yeah this too depending on your host may not be there but on ours it’s a really great way for you to actually scan your website for viruses and make sure that there are no viruses in your hosting account.
[00:04:54] The next one down is preferences and that’s where you can actually make adjustments to your account and the contact information and things like that.
[00:05:06] So in the next one you’ll see that we’ve got softaculous apps installed. Now this is a bonus that we let all of our clients have access to and it allows you to do simplified installs of software such as WordPress, Joomla and there’s a whole pile of different categories here that you can see and we can scroll across there and you’ll see that there’s quite a lot of options. Now I do believe that there are depending on what’s been enabled there could be up to 300 apps that you could install using softaculous. Okay so that’s the main center section of a cPanel.
[00:05:48] Now if we move over to the right we have our general information and this will show you your current user, the domain that’s attached to it, IP addresses, the home directory and then scrolling down here you’ll also see how much of your disk space you’re using, whether you have any MySQL databases, how much bandwidth, add-on domains, sub-domains, aliases, email accounts all of that information is there at a glance for you.
[00:06:21] So that is a very quick and brief overview of cPanel and when you log into cPanel this is what you would typically see with any cPanel host give or take a few features, depending on the individual hosting plans that those providers give to you.
